LITTLE BREMEN ANECDOTES:
According to an oral tradition, it happened in the year 778. Escaping from attacks, a group of displaced fishermen was floating downriver the Weser. They were looking for a sign at the river bank to settle down again.
When a storm came up and they had lost their hope, the sky opened and the landscape was lighted in a wonderful gloss.
At that moment they saw a hen with her little chicks, who had found a safe place on a high dune at the right river bank. This was a sign for the fishermen and they built up their huts in that place – the first buildings of the later Bremen.
Remark: The town hall of Bremen belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage – you can find the hen with her chicks in the second arch of the arcades.
